Advantages of Affiliating with PortTechLA

Affiliating with a business incubator offers companies many advantages. Nationally, 87% of business incubator graduate companies are still in business three years after graduation, compared to only half of non-incubator start-ups. Also, 65% of incubator start-ups have received that all-important third party funding, compared to around 10% of non-incubator companies.

PortTechLA offers these advantages, plus some unique advantages for companies with port and maritime technologies:

1) As a part of the City of Los Angeles' CleanTechLA initiative, PortTechLA has access to the faculties of some of the world's great research universities – USC, UCLA and CalTech – in addition to many City resources.

2) Through a contract with the federally funded Regional Small Business Development Center (SBDC), PortTechLA has been designated a "Special SBDC", specifically designed to assist technology companies grow and create jobs.

4) The PortTechNetwork (PTN), a monthly meeting hosted by PortTechLA, brings together entrepreneurs, technology company suppliers/consultants, potential funders and end users in a forum for education, discussion and networking.

5) Through event co-sponsorships with the Harbor Association of Industry and Commerce (HAIC), PortTechLA has established relationships with many port tenants who are in need of environmental, security and logistics technologies.

6) The San Pedro and Wilmington Chambers of Commerce, as partners in PortTechLA, are anxious to act as conduits to all the local resources needed by new companies and residents to the harbor area.
