Logistic clusters are geographical concentrations of companies in the industry of transporting and distributing goods and Los Angeles has one of the largest logistic clusters in the world. As MIT professor Yossi Sheffi explains in his book “Logistic Clusters,” companies providing similar services benefit from being in the same place and this is even truer for logistic clusters. As more companies join the cluster, the more efficient it becomes and even more companies join leading to cheaper and better transportation services. The low-cost and reliable transportation services found within logistic clusters drives economic growth and creates jobs. At PortTech Los Angeles, we are interested in working with entrepreneurs who have developed technologies that improve the flow of goods, which in turn have the potential to make the Los Angeles logistic cluster even more cost-effective and efficient. PortTechLA is proud to be featured in "Logistics Clusters," as an example of a business incubator advancing new technologies. |
