Advancing Innovation Award Honoree: TransPower

PortTech Los Angeles announced TransPower will receive the first Advancing Innovation Award during the PortTechEXPO on September 17, 2014. The award recognizes PortTech client companies that have excelled in moving from innovation to commercialization.

“Developing a clean technology startup takes perseverance and determination and PortTech is proud to be a part of TransPower’s continuing successful journey,” said PortTech Executive Director Stan Tomsic. “TransPower was founded in 2010 and in only four years CEO Mike Simon has successfully transitioned the business from concept to production with revenues in excess of $4.5 million.”

TransPower is a leader in the development of heavy-duty, zero-emission vehicles, including commercial drayage trucks and yard tractors. The efficiency, quality, and durability of TransPower’s “ElecTruck™” electric drive technology has been recognized by a diverse group of funders including the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach Technology Advancement Program, California Energy Commission, CALSTART, California Air Resources Board, U.S. Department of Energy, EPA Region 9, South Coast Air Quality Management District and San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.

“This award is a tribute to our funders who believed in the potential of electric trucks and to our customers who were willing to test and operate an emerging technology. And I appreciate how PortTech and its events like the EXPO have given us such great visibility with the ports and customers,” said Simon. “TransPower’s rapid growth demonstrates the demand for clean heavy duty trucks as companies work to meet state and federal government environmental regulations.”

TransPower, whose technologies are also being applied to school buses and transit buses, placed ninth in the San Diego Business Journal’s 2014 ranking of the county’s 100 fastest growing private companies.  The company’s revenues grew more than 280 percent between 2011 and 2013. TransPower plans on continuing its rapid expansion over the next 12 months and beyond to meet demand.

The Advancing Innovation Award will be presented at the 5th annual PortTechEXPO, which brings together entrepreneurs, industry and community to explore global technology solutions for ports and beyond. The EXPO features demonstrations, interactive displays and the latest advancements in environment, energy, transportation and safety/security solutions. The event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles, 110 East 22nd St. in San Pedro.
